They go where they please, for no mage can touch them, and their iron ships can lay waste to cities. —Roone Arretis
The Mendozians are foreign to Durraine. The first of their ships, hulking metal beasts that sail without sails, landed at Greyport in 480 AR, the Year of Iron Tides. Mendozians appear human, but have no innate capacity for magic—in fact, they are almost totally immune to it. Unlike other creatures with spell resistance, they cannot lower theirs. In place of magic, they carry strange weapons which discharge with the noise of thunder and pierce the thickest armor. Since their arrival, their ships have torched two cities, after residents committed crimes against them: Greyport (in 481 AR, when a bar brawl ended with one Mendozian killed) and Swadia (in 499 AR, when a person or persons stole a Mendozian weapon). There has been little retaliation for these events, partly because the Mendozians seem content to keep the status quo, and partly because neither Omskirk nor Dominion seems to want to get on their bad side.
